HKIS Middle School Tennis Team
For the 1st time, HKIS has fielded a Middle School Tennis Team and it has been a great success! Over the past term, the team, comprised of talented, enthusiastic 6th-8th graders, has been training 1x/week with OTR coaches doing hours of drilling, fitness training and point-playing . Putting their training into practice and gaining lots of invaluable match-play experience along the way, the team has participated in numerous competitions including the Parkview Junior Tennis League and the Babolat Interschool Challenges. They’ve also represented HKIS in the Division 2 ISSFHK school league, often playing against bigger, older high-schoolers. Un-fazed, the kids showed that bigger does not necessarily mean better, and went toe-to-toe with the competition. In fact, the girls have qualified for the Championship playoffs to be held at the Stanley Ho Sports Center tennis courts on Feb. 26! The boys just narrowly missed qualifying this year, but gave it an impressive effort and should be proud.
The competitions over the last term have given the players an idea of where to focus during practice as their training continues into term 2. The players have demonstrated anadmirable attitude towards their sport, towards their coaches, towards their opponents and towards each other. It has been great fun training together and motivating each other and the future of HKIS tennis is stronger than ever! Go Dragons!
